Fearless Leader, Literary Cat

After reading, From My Cold Dead Paws: Cats and the Guns They Love, Fearless Leader decided to check out the AK-47 to see if it was the weapon for him. I think he's interested, but maybe not in pink...

Whence "Bob" (or how KathrynElizabeth became Bob [no surgery involved])

I worked for a Board of Ed in NJ, and on my desk was a sampler that read, "Please don't call me Kathy (my name is Kathryn)." We had this really rotten guy with no sense of humor who hated everyone, and one night he put a post-it note over "Kathryn" that said "Bob." (Which I thought was pretty funny)

I had a friend in Louisiana, and I told him about it, and he immediately picked up on it and called me "Bob" all the time, and even addressed mail to me as "Bob." (This is a friend that I told "If I ever think about getting married again, come up here and put a bullet in my brain.")

Twelve years later, my guy had died of cancer and my friend's (in La.) marriage ended. I went to Baton Rouge one weekend and returned home engaged. Well, my 'friend' always referred to me as Bob, so when I moved to Baton Rouge, everyone there thought that was my name! It just stuck. That was ten years ago.

The funny thing was, we were really "friends." I had never thought of him romantically, and it turned out we were perfect for each other.
